Team members strengthen communities through volunteer efforts

Daily, Dell team members are finding new and innovative ways to strengthen their communities and make a positive social impact. Through work with local charitable and nonprofit organizations, they are preparing youth to enter a digital workforce, helping educate the underserved and disabled, feeding the hungry, responding to devastating natural disasters and more.

This is part of the commitment we’ve made through Powering the Possible. Our team members are the strongest representation of this. Through their time and money, they’re making a significant impact one act at a time.

Team members are making an impact through the Community Service Program, working with local charities by providing their time, money and expertise. The program allows team members to easily get involved with organizations they — and their co-workers — are passionate about. This creates community relationships that are mutually beneficial and widespread. Dell team members in 60 countries support over 15,000 charities globally and contributed more than 700,000 hours in FY13, tripling their impact to the community in 3 years. In FY13, 56 percent of Dell team members volunteered, with the highest percent engagement in Asia at 69 percent, up from 41 percent in FY12.

There are four ways a team member can engage with the Community Service Program:
  • Volunteer time — More than 60 percent of Dell team members volunteer their time and expertise to support charitable organizations.
  • Be a leader — Our Community Service Program leaders around the world are key to the program’s success. We have more than 800 team members globally that lead activities in each business unit, site or country-specific signature program initiatives.
  • Get rewarded — Through the Volunteer Reward Program, team members who track time spent volunteering through the portal and reach a certain volunteer hour threshold, are rewarded with donations that can be given to a qualified charity of their choice. For every recorded 10-plus hours of volunteer service per quarter, team members are given $150 to redeem to a list of globally vetted organizations through the portal.
  • Donate money — Team members may also donate monetarily to their preferred vetted organizations. Dell will match their contribution dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 per employee, per calendar year.
Internally, the program is supported by the Powering the Possible Portal that allows employees to connect with each other, sign up for volunteer opportunities, give monetary donations online and track their giving efforts. Organizations can also post volunteer opportunities, communicate their needs (such as essential items), and share stories and pictures with Dell’s over 100,000 global team members.

If you have volunteer needs and would like to connect with Dell’s giving team, please email us at dell-support@yourcause.com. Organizations who participate in the Powering the Possible Portal must be a U.S. registered charity (501c3) or vetted equivalency.
