How to create and configure a relay connector in Exchange server.

We first need to create the connector.

  1. Open EMC (Exchange Management Console).
  2. Expand Server Configuration, then click on Hub Transport.
  3. Select the Hub Transport server that will accept relay connections.
  4. From the options on the left most pane, click "New Receive Connector".
  5. Give the connector a unique name, choose Custom for the intended use and click Next.
  6. Click Next on the Local Network settings page to accept the defaults.
  7. Highlight the 0.0.0.0-255.255.255.255 entry and click the X to remove it.
  8. Click the down arrow next to Add. Add the IP address of the server that will relay through the Exchange server and click OK.
  9. Repeat step 8 to add all servers that will relay through the Exchange server. When finished, click Next.
  10. Click the New button to create the connector.

Now that the receive connector is created, it needs to be modified to allow relay.

  1. In the bottom middle pane, right-click the newly created receive connector and choose properties.
  2. Go to the "Permission Groups" tab. Clear all boxes except "Exchange servers".
  3. Go to the Authentication tab. Clear all boxes except "Transport Layer Security (TLS)" and "Externally Secured (for example, with IPsec)."
  4. Click OK to save the changes
