Windows 8 or 8.1 device will initially detect wireless networks

You may observe that a Windows 8.x device will initially detect wireless networks after imaging, but will then fail to detect networks after connecting to a domain and running Windows updates. You may also note that this problem is not present if running Windows updates directly from Microsoft support.

This issue only occurs when obtaining updates from a Windows Server Update Serves (WSUS) server on the domain.


Faulty Microsoft Update on WSUS servers

This issue is caused by a faulty update on KB931125 to be pushed out to WSUS servers in late 2012, which consequently pushed an erroneous security certificate list to client systems.

The KB931125 package that was posted to Windows Update and WSUS on December 11, 2012, was intended only for client SKU's. However, the package was also offered for server SKU's. Since some users reported issues after they installed the package on servers, the KB 931125 updates for server SKU's were expired from Windows Update and WSUS.

Microsoft recommends that the customer synchronize the WSUS server and approve the expired updates. Note: This issue does not affect client systems running Microsoft Windows 7 and earlier Windows versions.
