1. Configuring and Using Airprint On Compatible Dell Laser Printers

NOTE: To enjoy AirPrint support, please visit Support.dell.com to download and upgrade your printer firmware for you specific printer model.

AirPrint - enabled printers work with iPad, iPhone (3GS or later), and iPod touch (3rd generation or later) running iOS 4.2 or later. iPad, iPhone, iPod, and iPod touch are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. AirPrint and AirPrint logo are trademarks of Apple Inc.

A Wi-Fi capable AirPrint printer must be connected to the same home Wi-Fi network as the iOS device or Mac.

To use AirPrint, Bonjour (mDNS) and IPP protocols are required on your printer. Make sure that Bonjour (mDNS) and IPP are set to Enable on the operator panel menu.

Bonjour (mDNS) and IPP can also be enabled by clicking Turn On AirPrint from the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool. Follow the procedure below to configure the environment settings for AirPrint from the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool.

Setting Up AirPrint

Bonjour(mDNS) and IPP protocols are required on your machine to use the AirPrint feature. You can enable the AirPrint feature by one of the following methods

You can enable the IPP protocol or mDNS protocol

  1. Check whether the machine is connected to the network.
  2. Start a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Safari, or Firefox and enter your machine's new IP address in the browser window.
  3. Click Login in the upper right of the Embedded Web Service website.
  4. Type in the ID and Password, then click Login. If it's your first time logging into the Embedded Web Service, type in the below default ID and password. We recommend you to change the default password for security reasons.
    • ID: admin
    • Password: dell00000
  5. When the Embedded Web Service window opens, click Settings > Network Settings.
  6. Click Raw TCP/IP, LPR, IPP or mDNS.

Printing Using AirPrint

For example, the iPad manual provides these instructions:

  1. Open your email, photo, web page, or document you want to print
  2. Touch the action icon
  3. Select your printer driver name and option menu to set up
  4. Touch Print button. Print it out

Setting Up AirPrint

Setting Up AirPrint

To use AirPrint, Bojour (mDNS) and IPP protocols are required on your printer. Make sure that Bonjour (mDNS) and IPP are set to Enable on the operator panel menu. See "Protocols" for details. Bonjour (mDNS) and IPP can also be enabled by clicking Turn on AirPrint from the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool. Follow the procedure below to configure the environment settings for AirPrint from the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool.

NOTE: If the Turn on AirPrint button is not active, it means that both Bonjour (mDNS) and IPP are already set to Enable on the operator panel menu and the printer is ready for AirPrint.
  1. Ensure that the printer is connected to the network.
  2. Launch the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool by entering the IP address of the printer in your web browser.
  3. When the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool opens, go to the pages in the Print Server Settings tab. Click Turn on AirPrint in Enable AirPrint. The printer is ready for AirPrint.

Printing Using AirPrint

The following procedure uses the iPhone running iOS5 as an example.

  1. Open your email, photo, web page, or document you want to print.
  2. Tap the action icon.
  3. Tap Print.
  4. Select your printer and set printer options.
  5. Tap Print.

  1. Ensure that the printer is connected to the network.
  2. Launch the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool by entering the IP address of the printer in your web browser.
  3. When the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool opens, go to the pages in the Print Server Settings tab.
  4. Click Turn On AirPrint in Enable AirPrint. The printer is ready for AirPrint.

Printing Using AirPrint

The following procedure uses the iPhone running iOS5 as an example.

  1. Open your email, photo, web page, or document you want to print.
  2. Tap the action icon.
  3. Tap Print.
  4. Select your printer and set printer options.
  5. Tap Print.

Setting Up AirPrint

By default, AirPrint is enabled and works without configuration. To verify, perform the following steps:

NOTE: If mDNS is disabled in your router it will block Bonjour and can cause AirPrint to not work. To unblock Bonjour, enable mDNS in your router settings.
  1. Ensure that the printer is connected to the network.
  2. Launch the Web Based Management tool by entering the IP address of the printer in your web browser.
  3. Click the Network tab.
  4. Scroll down to Protocol settings.
  5. If necessary, click the Airprint checkbox to turn on AirPrint.
  6. If necessary, click OK, and then restart the printer.

Printing Using AirPrint

  1. Open your email, photo, web page, or document you want to print.
  2. Touch the action icon.
  3. Select your printer driver name and option menu to set up.
  4. Touch the Print button. Print it out.
