Accelerated Active Directory forest disaster recovery

A disaster or corruption of your Active Directory® (AD) can literally stop your business in its tracks. That’s why it’s crucial that organizations have a disaster recovery plan in place to mitigate the risk of unexpected AD disruptions.

Recovery Manager for Active Directory Forest Edition helps you automate backups and quickly recover everything — from a single object to an entire forest — in the event of a major disaster or corruption. Recovery Manager also simplifies compliance by creating a virtual lab to test disaster recovery plans and provides detailed reporting on the recovery effort.

Quickly restore your entire domain or AD forest in the event of a major disaster or AD corruption. Forest Edition greatly reduces downtime by selecting unaffected backups and then quarantining the damaged environment. The steps required to facilitate the recovery are automated, saving your organization lost productivity and revenue.

Requirements for recovering a domain or forest are simplified by leveraging the backups from Recovery Manager for Active Directory. You also have the option to restore some DCs from backup and others through demoting and re-promoting them with DCPromo, which aligns closely with Microsoft’s native forest recovery approach. Recovery Manager for Active Directory Forest Edition provides customers with these features:

Comprehensive recovery
Restore any object in AD, including users, attributes, organizational units (OUs), computers, subnets, sites, configurations and Group Policy Objects (GPOs). This enables you to significantly reduce downtime, and also gets affected users back to work quickly without restarting domain controllers, eliminating downtime and negative impact on network users.

Online granular restore

Restore individual attributes, such as account settings, group memberships and binary attributes, even when the object itself has not been deleted. This enables you to restore only the required attributes without restarting domain controllers.

Attribute-level restore
Even when the object itself has not been deleted, you can still restore individual attributes, such as account settings, group memberships and binary attributes. This enables you to restore only the required attributes without affecting other attributes.

Automation of manual tasks
Eliminates the risk of human error by automating manual steps to save vast amounts of time.

Flexible recovery pacing
Creates pauses in your recovery project, allowing you to automatically suspend the recovery of one or more DCs, and then manually resume the recovery of these DCs from the point where they were paused.

Remote quarantine
Allows you to automatically and remotely quarantine corrupt domain controllers so they won’t replicate with the newly restored environment.

Simultaneous system recovery
From one centralized location, you can restore domain controllers in your domain or forest simultaneously. This eliminates the need to manually interface with each domain controller separately, saving a significant amount of time and effort.

Virtual test lab
Easily build a separate virtual forest test lab with production data to test disaster scenarios and safely perform testing prior to making changes in the production domain or forest. Automatically generate detailed, time-stamped reports of the recovery process to summarize the before/after state of the organization as well as actions applied to each domain controller.

Health validation
Inspect AD for warning signs of possible issues before they become disasters by checking DC accessibility, replication, trusts and user authentication.

Forest recovery automation
Automate forest recovery steps from a central console by automatically and remotely quarantining infected domain controllers, resetting DSRM passwords, simultaneously restoring/recovering domain controllers, and automating other configuration tasks (setting FSMO roles, raising the RID pool, DNS, etc.) to save significant time and effort on recovery.

Recovery roadmap
Generate a detailed recovery process roadmap, including an overview of every stage of the recovery, to gain a better understanding and more control over the project.

Comparison reporting
Highlight changes made since the last backup by comparing the online state of AD with its current backup or by comparing backups. This accelerates AD recovery by quickly pinpointing deleted or changed objects or attributes. And with Change Auditor , you can easily identify who made the changes.

Consolidated backups
Speeds your time to resolution by enabling you to consolidate backups created by different Recovery Manager Console instances.

Diagnostic data collection
Enables you to collect diagnostic data from all domain controllers in your recovery project by using the Forest Recovery Console as a central location. You no longer have to interface with each domain controller individually to collect logs and other AD data in order to determine the cause of a recovery failure or determine why Active Directory is not functioning properly.
