Microsoft Automated Deployment Services (ADS) is a deployment framework to remotely and automatically deploy operating systems in the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 families, as well as to configure, maintain, and manage servers.
ADS provides a remote deployment infrastructure that consists of tools and technologies that can install an operating system on a bare metal server or re-provision an existing server with a different operating system image.
The following are high level tasks that ADS can perform:
- Preparing the server to be in the ADS environment
- Capturing an image of the operating system from the existing system
- Deploying the image to a target system
|
Microsoft ADS can be used with the Dell OpenManageTM Deployment Toolkit. Dell OpenManageTM Deployment Toolkit is a collection of enabling technologies, in the form of command line utilities and sample DOS batch scripts, designed to assist customers with pre-OS, unattended server deployment or re-provisioning. The Deployment Toolkit is free and can be downloaded from support.dell.com. The Toolkit provides the key utilities that allow the user to accomplish the following common deployment functions:
- Hardware discovery
- Hardware/BIOS/firmware/software configuration
- BIOS/firmware/software versioning
|
The Deployment Toolkit allows Dell customers to leverage their existing deployment processes and/or framework(s) to efficiently deploy or re-provision Dell servers.
