Anderson County Schools

“Dell technology has allowed Jerrica to be a part of the classroom. Now she has a tool to share her personality.”

- Bret Foster, CIO, Anderson County Schools

Challenge

Anderson County Schools wanted to make it easier for a student with severe cerebral palsy to communicate and take part in classroom activities. Previous attempts at technology solutions were frustrating for the student and required a high level of manual intervention.

Solution

The district purchased a DellTM  LatitudeTM  XT tablet PC and mounted it to the student’s wheelchair with a special connecting arm. Specialized voice software allows the student to select picture icons using the tablet’s Capacitive Touch Screen and “speak” through the tablet’s built-in speaker.

Benefit

• Get IT Faster: Quick delivery of a loaner tablet for evaluation Run IT Better: 3-year limited warranty, on-site service and 24x7 phone support with DellCare Plus service plan
• Grow IT Smarter: Approximately a $7,400 cost avoidance on hardware; Approximately a $800 cost avoidance on speech software; ability to deploy new software to grow with student’s educational needs
