"With VMware software and the Windows Unified Data Storage Server OS that the PowerVault NX1950 uses, one technician easily manages the virtual machines and storage." - Jon DeAngelo, chief information officer, Chautauqua County.
Chautauqua County needed to migrate its law enforcement records management system (RMS) to cost-effective servers that could deliver the performance and reliability required for those vital functions. The county also needed a way to address a rising number of new requests for other county services without having to purchase a new server for each new application.
The county created two computing environments based on Dell hardware: it migrated its RMS to DellTM PowerEdgeTM servers and created a scalable, virtualized server environment with a Dell PowerEdge server, Dell PowerVaultTM storage, and VMware® Server software for other county applications.
Increased reliability, flexibility, and scalability; 60 percent cost savings for the RMS, compared with upgrading the county’s proprietary server; Saved the cost of three physical servers by creating a virtualized environment; Accelerated the time to provide new services, from one month to two hours; Accelerated new application deployment by 99.7 percent
