Dell Inc.

“With the Dell Distributed Device Management solution, we are definitely making it easier for retail partners to sell Dell products, by providing a secure and efficient method for keeping their systems running and fully updated.”

- Joe Miles, technology project manager, operations, Dell Inc., United States

Challenge

Dell needed to streamline the system it used to manage kiosks at its own stores, when it adopted the model of partnering with retail chains. The manual process included Dell distributing tens of thousands of CDs per year to manage Dell system updates.

Solution

Dell used its own Dell Distributed Device Management solution to automate updates to Dell systems in stores, unassisted by Dell remote staff and with minimal desk-side support.

Benefit

• Run IT Better: Up to 98% desk-side support time eliminated; significant reduction in shipping charges (several thousand); reduced media duplication charges, tech support calls and service dispatches; with less work, a smaller staff can support the same or much larger infrastructure; improved security for Dell and stores
• Grow IT Smarter: Minimizes network configuration errors impacting sales
