Founded in 1967, Betagro Public Company Limited, part of Thailand conglomerate Betagro Group, is a leader in the country’s integrated agricultural sector. Starting out as a feed mill in Prapradaeng, Samut Prakarn Province, the Betagro Group now has more than 30 subsidiaries and specializes in the production and distribution of high-quality animal feed, livestock, and animal health products. The company boasts a huge agricultural base ranging from swine to chicken farms and contract pig farms. As its business expanded, Betagro required a robust IT infrastructure that could scale with the company’s growth and provide the superb performance and competitive price to support a rapidly evolving application environment. This case study describes how Betagro deployed DellTM PowerEdgeTM M600 blade servers running VMware® virtualization software to deliver a standardized and centralized platform that is easy to manage and offers high availability with resilient failover features. The energy-efficient, high-density Dell PowerEdge blade servers helped the company reduce power consumption by 40 percent and data center size by 30 percent compared with its previous solution—all without any reduction in performance. Overall, the Dell and VMware solution offered Betagro the best balance between price and performance, with competitive pricing and strong service support helping ensure cost-effective infrastructure growth and supporting rapid project launches.
