Dell OptiPlex^TM  desktops, Dell Precision^TM  workstations and Latitude^TM  laptops come with a number of BIOS-enabled security features that help to protect your system during the pre-boot process, even before operating system-based password protection is in place. Key examples are:

System and Hard Drive Passwords

System Passwords: A system password requires the user to enter a password in order to boot the system and enable the keyboard and mouse.

System Set-up Passwords: A system set-up password requires the user or administrator to enter a password in order to make any changes to the system set-up options.

Hard Drive Passwords: For laptop systems, requires user to enter a password to access the hard drive.

Smart Card Authentication

Smart cards are small portable credit-card shaped devices with internal integrated circuits (ICs). The combination of the small size and IC make them valuable tools for security, data storage, and special applications. The use of smart cards can improve system security by combining something a user has (the smart card) with something only the user should know (a PIN) to provide more secure user authentication than passwords alone.

OtaniumSuite PKI Secure, portable, digital certificate Smart Card Management

OtaniumSuite PKI features Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) based digital certificates storage on the Smart Card, and use of the certificates as positive, non-repudiable proof of identity when transacting over distances. With digital certificates, a user can digitally sign their outgoing email, can encrypt email to be deciphered only by the intended recipient, digitally sign documents, authenticate into Windows domains (certificate logon), and automatically log into Internet and Intranet web sites.

Dell Latitude D-Family integrated Smart Card Reader
