Why Dell Asks for SSN

It's wise to be cautious about sharing your social security number or any other personal information. Dell Financial Services takes the privacy and security of our customers' information very seriously and we don't ask for information unless we absolutely need it to offer you financing in the quickest and most efficient manner.

There are three reasons we require you to furnish your social security number.

  1. Because it's required by law.  Under the USA Patriot Act of 2001, we're required to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
  2. Because it allows us to access your credit history.  Your Social Security Number is the quickest, most accurate way for us to retrieve from the credit bureaus the information we need to consider your credit application.
  3. Because we may use it to validate your identity when making a purchase.  Using your Dell Preferred Account (DPA) is simple and easy. In order to provide customers the ability to use their accounts the use of a social security number is an alternative authentication option that may be utilized if you don't have your account number readily available.
