About the HDTV Challenge

In a four-city head-to-head viewing competition, consumers chose Dell's W5001C plasma HDTV over Panasonic's TH50PX500U model, when considering picture quality and price. Without knowing who makes either TV, following viewings on each TV and given price differences between them, most respondents preferred the Dell model.

The verbatims below were given in response to the following question:
What reaction do you have, if any, to learning the brand names of these TVs? Any other reaction?
"I would prefer the Dell. The picture is finer, better, clearer and the brand itself is respectable."
"I was surprised because Dell is reputable and well-known for their computers. I didn’t know they manufactured television, especially plasma TVs. The Dell was far superior in picture quality."
"I pick Dell because it’s brighter, it’s clearer, it’s well, I just like it much better, and the colors, they’re so much prettier."
