The Pros to Know

Dale CrippsDale Cripps
Over the last 25 years, Dale has been an inspiration to the industry and to consumers alike. In fact, he’s been dubbed the “spiritual head of the HDTV movement.” But how did it all begin?

Back in 1983, a small article caught Dale’s eye. Japan was working on a TV system with five times the resolution of current models. Recognizing a revolution in the making, Dale quickly moved to create a newsletter that grabbed the attention of industry players like Sony and CBS.

“It’s been an extraordinary privilege for me to introduce people to HDTV over the past 25 years. This magnificent technical triumph has taken an astounding 45 years to get from inception to American prime time, but one thing is certain: HDTV will touch everyone on earth from this point on.

From the first time I saw it, I knew I wanted to help HDTV find its way to your home and mine. That idea ripened into the HDTV Newsletter. I launched it at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in April 1985, and in just two weeks time, I had more than two hundred orders from major corporations and governments around the developed world.

The next challenge for me was to find ways to meet and serve you, the consumers. HDTV officially launched from Washington DC on November 16, 1998. That very day, I launched HDTV Magazine, the world’s first all-HDTV consumer publication.

Now, Thanks to Dell, I hope to help you make your own leap to HDTV. Please send in your questions and let us know what’s on your mind. We’ll be here, ready to share our experiences, perspectives and insights.”
