What is a Trusted Drive?
Trusted Drives are laptop hard drives with an on-board security controller and embedded capabilities for media-speed full disk encryption and pre-boot authentication. Trusted Drives with security activated using the Trusted Drive Manager protects against data loss due to a lost or stolen PC. The official name of a Trusted Drive is the Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE.2 hard drive.

Trusted Drive Software
Wave's Trusted Drive Manager is used to activate the hardware-based full disk encryption features of Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE.2 Trusted Drives. The Trusted Drive Manager software activates the security that distinguishes a Trusted Drive from a standard hard drive and is included with the Trusted Drive.

Which Dell systems support Trusted Drives?
The Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE.2 drive is available as an option for all Dell LatitudeTM  notebook systems. The enterprise version of the Wave Systems Embassy Trust Suite software is included which contains the Trusted Drive Manager for managing the Trusted Drive.

What options are available for managing Trusted Drives in an enterprise?
For Trusted Drives in an enterprise environment, Wave Systems offers the Embassy Remote Administration Server (ERAS). ERAS enables centralized IT administration to remotely deploy and manage PC clients that are equipped with Seagate Momentus®  5400 FDE.2 drives and/or Trusted Platform Modules (TPM). Features such as remote password reset, drive activation and recovery, and drive re-commissioning are supported.
