Q: How does Dell Supplier Diversity define a diverse supplier?
A: A diverse supplier is a U.S.-based for-profit enterprise (public or private) that is certified by a third party as a small business concern, small disadvantaged business, woman-owned small business, veteran-owned small business, disabled veteran-owned small business, historically underutilized business zone (HUBZone), minority business enterprise and/or woman business enterprise. Q: Why is supplier diversity important to Dell?
A: Diversity is a key aspect of how Dell does business, and diverse suppliers are an important component of our diversity-management model. Dell is committed to having a supply base that is reflective of our diverse customer base. We rely on the contributions of businesses that are owned by individuals of diverse backgrounds in order to deliver the best product, with the greatest value, to an increasingly diverse marketplace. Diverse suppliers that deliver creative product and service solutions have a positive impact on our customer relationships, the business community and the population at large.
Q: What if I am not a diverse supplier?
A: Dell Supplier Diversity works directly with diverse companies as part of Dell's diversity-management model. All companies must be certified as a diverse supplier by a third-party agency prior to registering with us. Please ensure that your company is certified prior to soliciting business with Dell Supplier Diversity. If you are not a certified diverse supplier, determine if your company meets the certification guidelines set forth by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and/or the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).

Q: How does Dell Supplier Diversity work within Dell's procurement process?
A: We promote diversity growth in Dell's supplier base by doing the following:
- Working with commodity managers to identify upcoming nonproduction and production procurement opportunities
- Identifying qualified diverse suppliers to participate in upcoming procurement opportunities
- Screening identified diverse suppliers to determine if a match exists between suppliers' capabilities and business requirements
Q: What if I registered with Dell Supplier Diversity, but have not been contacted for a procurement opportunity?
A: If your company has not been contacted for a potential procurement opportunity, either the opportunity has not yet occurred, we do not have a need for the product/service your company provides, or a match between your company's product/service and our procurement needs has not been identified. Q: What are the next steps after Dell Supplier Diversity contacts my company regarding a potential procurement opportunity?
A: We will go through a screening process with a representative of your company to determine if a match exists between capabilities and business requirements. If a match exists, we will host a meeting or Direct Talk between your company and the commodity manager for your product/service. If we determine that your company's capabilities are aligned with our business requirements, your company will be invited to competitively bid for a business award.
Q: May I contact commodity managers directly for a particular procurement opportunity?
A: Dell Supplier Diversity works directly with commodity managers to determine procurement opportunities and to introduce qualified diverse suppliers into the procurement process. As a result, we request that diverse suppliers contact us directly for information about procurement opportunities and related matters.

Q: What are Dell's Supplier Diversity requirements for its global supply base?
A: Dell supports the development of a diverse marketplace through the development of a diverse supply chain. Dell achieves this goal by doing business with diverse subcontractors and suppliers, and by requiring its subcontractors and suppliers to do business with diverse companies.
Subcontractors under Dell’s Federal Government contracts shall comply with the Equal Opportunity clauses at 41 C.F.R. 60-1.4(a), 60-250.5(a) and 60-741.5(a), the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action clauses at FAR 52.212-5, FAR 52.222-25 and FAR 52.222-26, and the Small Business Utilization and Subcontracting clauses at FAR 52-219-8 and FAR 52-219-9, as applicable.
All Dell subcontractors and suppliers shall use commercially reasonable efforts to implement a Supplier Diversity program by doing business with concerns that are:
- Certified as minority- or women-owned businesses by a third-party certification agency acceptable to Dell
- Self-Certified as small/diverse business directly through Dell on an annual basis through the Small Business Certification form
- 51 percent owned, controlled, operated and managed by women or members of a minority group, including African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Indian Americans and Asian-Pacific Americans
- Small business concerns, as defined by the U.S. Small Business Administration, including, but not limited to, disadvantaged, veteran-owned, HUBZone or woman-owned small businesses
All Dell subcontractors and suppliers shall maintain accurate records on their Supplier Diversity program, and shall make such records available to Dell upon request. If a Dell subcontractor or supplier is considered to be a Diverse Supplier, it must register with Dell's Supplier Office. Dell subcontractors and suppliers shall also cooperate in Dell Supplier Diversity studies or surveys, as required. This includes responding in a timely manner to any reasonable request from Dell's Supplier Diversity office for information on their Supplier Diversity program, including, for example, submission of second-tier contracting reports, benchmarking and global expansion initiatives. If requested, second-tier contracting reports shall be submitted to Dell’s Supplier Diversity Office within 15 business days after the close of each calendar period.
Q: What if I don’t do business inside the U.S., do Dell Supplier Diversity requirements apply to me?
A: Dell seeks relationships with, and promotes the use of diverse suppliers globally. Dell’s subcontractors and suppliers, regardless of where the subcontractor or supplier is located, shall use commercially reasonable efforts to implement a Supplier Diversity program by doing business with concerns that are recognized as minority- or women-owned businesses within the regions and/or countries where the subcontractor or supplier conducts business.
