Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I studied Business Information Systems at De Montfort University and did my “internship year” at RSA (The security division of EMC). My internship gave me experience in both the technical and retail sides of the business. I found my niche at EMC through mentors and managers to help me drive my development.
How did you hear about EMC?
I live right next door! I drove past EMC all the time. I always wondered what they did and was very intrigued to learn more.
What made you choose this role over others?
I applied to about 68 different companies before RSA gave me the opportunity. The market in the UK is very tough - everyone is searching for an internship and most of them are unpaid. Other companies offered me a one-year internship and RSA only offered me eight weeks. I knew the experience and exposure at EMC would be unlike any other so I took it and worked hard to prove myself. They ended up keeping me on for a whole year! EMC’s Global Services Associate Program scheme is also very unique and unlike any other. You attend a boot camp for two months, in which you are trained on all the products and you get to be hands on with the technology. You are pretty much paid to learn about everything. It was definitely the best start to my career. In talking to my friends and colleagues, I don’t believe any other company offers this!
Did you participate in any internship before you were hired? If so, tell us about your experience.
After my second year at university I interned as a systems engineer at RSA and looked after the Archer software. While I was interning I was given my first account to manage. During my role I managed customer technical queries. This then changed to managing my own accounts and helping deliver technical solutions.
How do you think Dell can help you achieve your career goals?
I see a lot of opportunities for personal growth and more doors opening. I also feel that the products we offer will become more specialized and we will be able to learn so much. The culture is exciting and we will gain fresh eyes and leadership to help grow and move forward as part of Dell.
What makes this a great place to work?
It’s a combination of the people and the products. Everyone here cares about you and goes above and beyond to help you out. You feel that you are part of a family and community here. The products are the greatest and we know we are giving our customers the best products and experience.
