Accounting Development Program
Dell’s Accounting Development Program (ADP) is a full-time rotational program designed for entry-level accounting professionals who want to jump-start their career while developing their technical acumen, accounting and operational knowledge, and soft skills.
ADP provides participants with a robust set of accounting experiences through three year-long rotations within the accounting organization, a technical curriculum, soft skills trainings, projects, international conferences, networking opportunities, career mentorship and support for professional certification. Participants are provided opportunities to build global skills and acquire a broad understanding of finance and accounting tools and applications.
Our goal is to develop the next generation of accounting leaders by exposing them to a wide set of unique skills and leadership opportunities typically not afforded early in an accounting career. Our program is an ideal and unique opportunity for those driven individuals seeking a wide breadth and depth of accounting and business knowledge.
The three consecutive accounting rotations provide a unique blend of operational and technical GAAP and IFRS experiences. Candidates enjoy the opportunity to explore many areas of the business while gaining expertise on multiple teams. This unique opportunity to see three distinct roles over three years, and work with a variety of accounting leaders, provides our participants with a broad network and the competitive edge necessary to excel throughout their careers. Rotations are generally at our Accounting hub locations in Round Rock, Texas; Hopkinton, Massachusetts; Penang, Malaysia; and Bratislava, Slovakia. Potential rotations include:
Dell’s global presence, coupled with ADP’s unique program structure, allows participants to gain international experiences, build their global skills, and collaborate with individuals across the world. During the third year of the program, top performers are eligible to earn a six-month international or regional rotation. Outside of the rotational opportunities, all ADP participants travel internationally for global conferences and also collaborate with global teams in case studies and simulations.
Networking, Teambuilding and Career Development
ADP provides participants with high visibility within the accounting organization, as well as numerous opportunities to develop their career. Participants regularly interact with Dell executives and management in order to further their professional skills and grow their network. Program participants are assigned a professional mentor within the accounting organization to assist them in navigating their careers. ADPs participate in soft skills trainings on topics such as presentation skills, leadership and building personal brand, to further advance their professional reputation. Participants also have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within the program, such as spearheading learning and development, recruiting or networking initiatives. Trainings and Technical Curriculum
In addition to the yearly rotations, ADP participants take part in a structured curriculum that further expands their finance and accounting foundational knowledge, as well as teaches Dell-specific application of accounting and finance topics. Topics include Accounting Principles and Policies, Software and Services Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Pricing, and Vendor Funding, among others. Participants collaborate on group case studies, work through extensive business and audit simulations, and independently research accounting topics to present to executive leadership. The goal of the curriculum is to develop the competencies that will provide an essential foundation for long-term success.
Participants are required to complete all or a substantial portion of an accounting certification (CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) prior to finishing the program. In order to provide participants with the tools necessary to successfully complete the certification process, Dell provides financial support as well as day-to-day flexibility throughout the program to accommodate time for review courses and exam completion.
Post-ADP Development Journey
Dell supports continued learning and development for all employees on a continuing basis. Career movement throughout the accounting organization is a cultural norm at Dell and creates an accounting team that is constantly challenged and well-versed in many areas of the business. Post-program, individuals work on one of the many accounting teams within Dell. Participants also have the option to participate in other development programs offered by Dell as they progress further in their careers.
