Our People | Janine

JanineWhen did you join Dell and what roles have you held in your time here?

I joined Dell in October 2011 as an external social media consultant supporting the global brand campaign team, first for Germany and later for other countries as well. In August 2013, I then joined the German marketing team as the digital and brand lead, a new role that I drafted together with my executive. About a year later, I was recommended to a newly established central team, the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) digital solutions and content marketing team. Now, I am the digital content manager for cloud computing and EMEA regional lead for social media.

What responsibilities are included in your current role?

As the EMEA digital content manager for cloud computing, I am responsible for providing suitable and relevant content that highlights Dell’s point of view for IT industry trends, its challenges and our solutions. Additionally, I help countries explore which content is most suitable for their target audience customer journey. This way we can make sure to provide valuable content at the time needed, where needed. Additionally, I oversee the strategy, governance, guidance and ecosystem of the social media activities. I support the countries in developing an always-on social media strategy that is aligned with the customer journey as well as the business solutions Dell offers.

How would you describe the Dell culture?

Dell is a great company to work for and one of the reasons I joined was its culture. I can identify myself with the openness, positivity and the commitment to help people fulfill their dreams and objectives. I can freely express my opinions and give improvement suggestions or new ideas to the management. There is an open-door policy within Dell that I really appreciate. Everyone is unique and can contribute to the success of the company. That’s understood here – and it is great!

What do you think people interested in working here would need to know?

Dell is a great place to work and everyone here pursues the common vision of delivering technology solutions that enable people everywhere to go, thrive and fulfill their potential. This vision is more than a simple statement, it is what keeps us going. There are great career opportunities and Dell helps you to fulfill your dreams. You just make it happen.

What keeps you here at Dell?

Dell is at the forefront of marketing and that’s exactly where I want to be. Engaging in new technology, delivering content excellence and meeting the customers at the right time at the right place is very exciting and provides me great career opportunities.

What are some projects that you have recently been involved with and some of your career highlights at Dell?

Recent I launched an extensive guide that will enable digital managers to build a robust, sustainable social media strategy, execute good community management, and amplify to target audience using paid social campaigns as well as how to activate the most important of our assets – our employees. I’m very proud of this achievement and it receives lots of attention and positive feedback. Some other highlights of my career were the launches of multiple brand campaigns all over the world. It was great to see how our brand came to life in all of these markets.

What positive effects have you seen as a result of Dell’s strategy?

We are able to truly act upon our vision to "deliver technology solutions that enable people everywhere to grow and thrive." Helping customers identifying their true needs and providing them an end-to-end solution from a partner they can trust is, in my opinion, our true differentiator. We have a great portfolio, we have amazing, talented people and we can help overcome IT challenges.

What role have you played in helping your customers grow and thrive?

A key part in our social media strategy is listening. It is important to understand what they struggle with and what they are looking for to overcome these challenges. Those insights can be used for a multitude of improvements. For instance, we were able to organize much demanded hands-on workshops with key industry experts. One piece of feedback we received was, "Thanks so much, I learned a ton and can finally solve my IT issue."

How does Dell differentiate itself when it comes to being an employer of choice?

It's people. The atmosphere and working environment are great and that is thanks to the people you work with and for. Colleagues help you getting started and are open and friendly and executives are very approachable and give you opportunities to grow and develop your skills.
