The eighth installment in our “Go Local” Think Tank Series was hosted on February 22, 2013, at the Microsoft® campus in Redmond, Washington. Emmy award-winning actor and director Tom Skerritt moderated the event. Tom is a local influencer in the Seattle startup scene — his entrepreneurial efforts include work with both TheFilmSchool and Red Badge Project — and he played an integral role in driving in-person attendance and online participation for the interactive discussion.

The day’s conversation focused on the issues that matter most to the growth and success of Seattle's small businesses and entrepreneurs, and was driven by Dell-commissioned research that looked at local business conditions through three breakout sessions led by local experts.
  • Access to technology: Chris Pirillo, founder of LockerGnome and expert in growing online communities, helping drive businesses and entrepreneurs forward by providing insight and guidance through speaking engagements, consulting arrangements and coaching endeavors.
  • Access to capital: John Berdes, President and CEO of Craft3, a local nonprofit community development financial institution.
  • Access to networks, talent and expertise: Rebecca Lovell, Mentor in Residence for the Seattle TechStars program, responsible for coaching entrepreneurs on investor presentations and cultivation.
