Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), an institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, needed a high performance computing platform to take VLBI measurement and determine orbit positioning for the Chang’e-3 probe as it prepared to support the first lunar soft-landing.
The organization selected Dell as its key IT solutions provider of blades, servers and storage used for real-time data processing by the VLBI sub-system responsible for tracking the interferometry during the probe’s journey and its controlled lunar descent.
