Virtually every workstation application requires the rendering of detailed graphics. Dell Precision workstations offer a range of high-performance OpenGL® graphics cards that can give you superb graphics performance for demanding visual applications for industries such as publishing, design, architecture and engineering.

Dell Precision workstations offer a selection of independent software vendor (ISV)-certified graphics cards that can satisfy requirements ranging from OpenGL 3D performance to affordable 2D performance. Dell continually evaluates the newest graphics technologies to help ensure the most relevant graphics cards are selected for qualification, certification and factory installation in Dell Precision workstations.

Multimonitor support

Most of our graphics card options provide the capability to drive two monitors and in some cases, three or four. Additional screen real estate can allow for the display of larger images across multiple monitors or the ability to see multiple applications simultaneously and can help improve productivity.

Dual-graphics options

Optional dual-graphics configurations allow two graphics cards to work together to help improve performance and quality. Dual graphics cards working together can deliver an application-transparent scaling of performance and drive additional monitors.

The following guide will help you determine the video adapter(s) required to properly support your monitor setup. Please note that additional adapters may be required for multimonitor setup, which can be selected in the adapter section during system customization.

Step 1 — Check your monitor(s):
The first step is to determine if you need additional video adapters to look at the monitors you’re going to be hooking up. Take note of the type of connections your monitor(s) have: DisplayPort, DVI or VGA.

Step 2 — Check your system’s graphics port(s): 
The second step is to determine what graphics ports your systems have. To do this, look at the back of your computer or at the corresponding video card you’re buying in the "Compare Side by Side" tab of this window. Take note of the type of connections you have, DisplayPort, DVI or VGA. Note: if you're going to connect to an NVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 420, please see additional information below.

How to set up quad monitors using the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 420 
The NVIDIA Quadro NVS 420 graphics card is capable of quad monitor support, driving four monitors with a single card. If you select this graphics card‚ you may need additional video adapters depending on the monitors you will be connecting to. The NVS 420 comes with an adapter for either VHDCI to four DP connectors or VHDCI to four DVI connectors. The below graphic illustrates the different video adapters needed to connect to your monitors.

  1. Benchmark obtained comparing 2 CPU cores versus 4 CPU cores + Tesla C2075 running Ansys V13sp5 Model-Turbine Geometry, 2.1M DOF, static nonlinear, direct sparse CPU: Hex-core Westmere 5650 2.67GHz
  2. Test consists of a collection of hard surface objects rendered outdoors in 3DS Max with iray 1.2 comparing an NVIDIA Tesla C2075 and the indicated Quadro GPU with the CPU relative to an Intel® 3GHz x 5570 Xeon® CPU with 8 cores rendering.
