Dell EqualLogic PS Series arrays provide a storage solution that delivers the benefits of consolidated networked storage in a self-managing iSCSI storage area network (SAN) that is affordable and easy to use, regardless of scale. This paper quantifies the effect on iSCSI bandwidth and throughput caused by managing several configuration options within the Broadcom and Intel 10GbE adapter properties and the VMware ESXi 5.5 TCP stack while executing several common SAN workloads. From the results, recommended configurations for an EqualLogic PS Series SAN are given for each tested NIC type.
