Help people grow and prosper. Embrace technology as a driving force to enable human potential and help create a better world. These ideals are at the core of Dell’s purpose as a company. The Dell team puts these beliefs into action through service to society and the environment.

Dell’s Powering the Possible initiative represents the company’s commitment to put its technology and expertise to work where it can do the most good for people and the planet — helping to inspire achievements today that were impossible before. Powering the Possible encompasses the following four action areas:

  • Fostering environmental stewardship
A lifecycle approach beginning the design process with the environment in mind continues through responsible recycling.
  • Promoting supply chain responsibility
A leadership role driving conflict-free sourcing for the electronics industry enables supplier diversity and responsible labor practices among suppliers.
  • Empowering people:
A culture that appreciates differences, empowering every team member to find innovative customer solutions, reaffirms Dell’s goal to build an inclusive workforce that thinks as differently as it looks.
  • Giving back to communities:
A holistic approach to giving which supplements funds with technology, expertise and volunteerism rather than just writing checks. This focus helps young people learn through direct access and skills acquisition.

The Powering the Possible initiative reaches beyond philanthropy and compliance, empowering Dell team members and the community at large to actively participate in the making of a better world. By dedicating both technology and expertise to this commitment, Dell helps accelerate treatments for pediatric cancer, encourages social entrepreneurship among students, responds to disasters and supports the engagement of individual team members with diverse community groups.

Open IT community

Dell supports an innovative approach to information-sharing among the people responsible for implementing Dell offerings in their organizations. The Dell TechCenter, an online technical community of IT professionals, focuses on data center and end-user computing best practices. The community consists of highly technical IT administrators and professionals who consume TechCenter-hosted wiki pages, blogs, forums, videos and white papers to stay on top of technology advances and industry trends.

The TechCenter is run by subject-matter experts (SMEs) who create, curate and evangelize content around IT areas such as systems management, networking, storage, virtualization, cloud computing and more. Anyone can participate in this open community. Although registration is not required to view content, as of September 2012 registration was at more than 10,000 members. In addition to the English-language TechCenter site, localized TechCenter communities are available in Chinese and Japanese, and a Brazilian Portuguese site is planned to launch soon.

The TechCenter helps IT professionals optimize Dell solutions through hosted content as well as through direct interactions with the TechCenter team and their IT peers. Members and visitors can also reach TechCenter team SMEs through social media channels such as the @DellTechCenter Twitter handle or the personal Twitter handles of individual TechCenter team members. The TechCenter also hosts a weekly chat session every Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT (UTC–6).
