Chassis Management Controller

The Dell Chassis Management Controller (CMC) is an innovative systems management tool built on proven and familiar Dell OpenManage technology, and it is built to manage one or more Dell PowerEdge systems containing blade servers or server nodes.

The Dell CMC module provides a secure browser-based interface that enables an IT administrator to take a thorough system inventory, perform configuration and monitoring tasks, remotely power on/off servers and enable alerts for events on servers and components in the system chassis. This component is embedded into the chassis, requires no additional software installation, and is accessible either from a front LCD panel or an easy-to-use and thorough web interface.

The CMC interacts with the iDRAC in each server, so that administrators can perform server-specific iDRAC functions such as performing updates, changing settings, or opening a remote console session from the CMC interface.

The CMC can be used for multi-system management to allow IT staff to monitor multiple (up to nine) systems of the same type with no additional cabling, via the single web interface. This display makes it easy for an administrator to keep an eye on multiple systems and get a quick, accurate reading of their health. With CMC, IT staff can back-up and replicate settings for each chassis, and save or apply BIOS profiles for individual blade servers so that adding new blades or chassis to your environment is easier and more automated. With certain versions of CMC, it is even possible to assign settings to an empty slot, and the settings will be applied when a new server is inserted at some point in the future.

The Dell CMC makes managing multiple servers and multiple systems quick and easy with an intuitive interface, plenty of automated functionality, and comprehensive capabilities.
