  1. Dynamic Disk Pools Technical Report

The Dynamic Diks Pool (DDP) feature dynamically distributes data, spare capacity, and protection information across a pool of disk drives. These pools may range in size from a minimum of 11 drives to potentially as large as of all of the drives in the PowerVault MD3 storage system including the expansion units. In addition to creation of a single DDP, storage administrators may opt to create traditional disks in conjunction with DDPs or even multiple DDPs, providing an unprecedented level of flexibility. This technical report provides a technical overview of the DDP feature as well as providing best practice guidance for usage.

  6. Data Progression white paper

With the recent profusion of tiered storage solutions into the enterprise storage market, organizations are increasingly adopting tiering strategies to accommodate rapid data growth while controlling costs. Almost all major offerings leverage multiple types of drives, with varying capacities and performance levels, and attempt to match data with the optimal drive type based on storage profiles. Typically, mission-critical data is stored on high-performance drives, while “less important” data is moved to high-capacity drives.

  9. Dell PowerEdge R930 RAS Whitepaper

Businesses dependent on some of the most demanding enterprise applications — such as in-memory databases, CRM, and ERP — have long turned to RISC-based platforms to ensure the productivity and efficiency they need. But RISC architectures are coming up short when it comes to the needs of today’s computing environments. It’s time to take a look at the latest generation of x86 platforms, like the Dell PowerEdge R930. This future-ready, four-socket server rivals RISC performance and delivers the reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) capabilities enterprises want. There are five key factors to consider when assessing an x86 platform: Does it have a foundation built on reliability, a complete systems approach, virtualization that ensures highly available data and processing, responsive management, and tightly integrated, enterprise-savvy partners? The Dell PowerEdge R930 has them all.
