Architecture Design Guidance
The flexibility of the Dell Fluid Cache for SAN solution provides deployment options to meet your specific workload needs.

Minimum architectures are ideal for OLTP customer relationship management (CRM) environments and normal-to-heavy VDI user types.

Maximum architectures are recommended for multi-OLTP systems (such as CRM and enterprise resource planning [ERP], and ecommerce) and heavy-to-power VDI user types.

How the solution works
Dell Fluid Cache for SAN is an end-to-end application acceleration solution, architected by combining:
  • Dell Fluid Cache for SAN software
  • Select Dell PowerEdge servers that support PCI Express Flash and internal PCIe SSD cards (Micron M420P SSD cards)
  • Dell Compellent storage
  • Select Dell Networking 10/40 GbE switches and Mellanox ConnectX-3 network adaptors
  • Dell support and deployment services
To deploy the solution, you need a minimum of three Dell PowerEdge servers containing Dell Express Flash PCIe SSDs, which are connected to Dell Compellent storage, and the establishment of a private cache 10/40 GbE network.

Licensing information
Dell makes the Dell Fluid Cache for SAN licensing simple for deployment. With licensing at the node level, you don’t need to worry about the size of your cache, CPU or sockets per server. Purchase a three-node cluster license for initial deployment and add nodes with expansion licenses as you need to scale performance for your applications.

Dell Fluid Cache for SAN is licensed as a perpetual licensed Dell software product. The following licensing options are available:
  • Evaluation license — 90-day free evaluation license of Dell Fluid Cache for SAN
  • Cluster license — Covers licenses for three Dell PowerEdge server nodes
  • Expansion license — Allows you to add one additional server node to your cluster license, up to eight total server nodes per cache pool
  • Annual software maintenance — Required at point of sale and optional thereafter
