OpenManage Power Center

Control power by server, rack, row or room

Gain greater control of power and heat in your data center so you can increase rack density, optimize workloads and mitigate risk from power and thermal events. We’re committed to optimizing every level of infrastructure to enhance energy efficiencies and to give you more control of your computing environment. With Power Center, you get detailed measurement of energy consumption throughout your data center which gives you the insight to manage systems and workloads more efficiently.

OpenManage Power Center integrates with Intel Node Manager technology in your Dell servers to simplify implementation of management policies in your IT environment.

When used with Dell PowerEdge servers with Intel Node Manager technology and an iDRAC Enterprise license, you can segment control across physical levels of your data center according to each row, rack or group of servers. In addition, you can create custom logical groups and monitor energy usage and costs on a group-by-group basis. OpenManage Power Center gives you the ability to:
  • Measure and manage the power consumption of up to 2,000 servers; and track both short-term and long-term historical data.
  • Implement policies that throttle back power consumption during periods of low demand and/or assign maximum power to those servers running your most important applications when available power is constrained.
  • Establish policies to throttle down nonessential servers when temperatures rise above designated levels.
  • Establish policies that maximize uninterruptible power supply (UPS) uptime for servers or groups of servers running critical workloads during a power outage.
  • Protect your data and your systems by implementing rack-level power-capping policies to prevent tripped circuit breakers.
  • Maintain uptime of business-critical applications by applying a policy to reduce noncritical consumption first.
  • Increase data center density by tracking power usage by physical or logical group. This lets you identify consumption trends and anomalies, and then reassign underutilized servers or those approaching maximum capacity.
  • Simplify cost itemization: Itemize the costs of powering servers that are allocated to business units, locations or specific functions.
  • Eliminate the guesswork around temperature management and help maintain uptime during thermal events.
  • Manage power or temperature spikes quickly and easily with emergency power reduction routines.
Combine these capabilities with other Dell innovations like our Fresh Air-capable solutions, and you have the essential tools to reduce power consumption and control operating costs.
