Large Storage Capacity and High Transfer Speeds:
As database- and Internet-related applications require greater data storage, and critical operations demand minimized downtime due to backup operations, new cost-effective solutions are needed. LTO Ultrium ultra-high-capacity cartridge is such a solution. With storage capacity of up to 1.6TB (2:1 compressed; 800GB native) and data-transfer rates of 240MB/s (2:1 compressed; 120MB/s native), this increased performance (measured by higher transfer speeds) means less time spent on backups and archive operations, and greater overall efficiency.
WORM Media
Dell offers LTO3 and LTO4 WORM (Write Once, Read Many) media which provide a cost-effective means for storing data in non-rewriteable format to help address compliance requirements. This means once data is written to a piece of WORM media, the data on the tape cannot be changed or overwritten. WORM media can be appended to if data is already present on the tape. The media also stores unique identifiers which allow the drive to determine whether or not the media has been tampered with. WORM media offers a method of data retention for compliance laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Specific WORM media barcode labels will end in LT.
Encrypted For Security
LTO Gen 4 systems have introduced to midrange tape storage the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit encryption algorithms to keep data secure. The hardware-based AES 256-bit encryption capability of the new Gen 4 format offers higher level of security during storage and transporting of sensitive information.
Cleaning LTO cartridges:
Dell offers the Dell Powervault Ultrium UCC (universal cleaning cartridges) to help in long-term reliability of the LTO drive and media. Dell offers cleaning with and without cleaning bar code labels.
Dell Bar Code Labels:
Barcode labeling is a key organizational component that defines the efficiency of growing media libraries. Autoloaders within tape libraries require a barcode label to identify the correct data cartridge. Dell offers varying bar code labels to fit any user environment.
