This article provides Troubleshooting Steps to resolve a Dell Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse not working after a restart



1. Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Lock Up after a Restart

After a system restart due to a Windows update or for any other reason, the Wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are no longer paired after the Operating System loads, the keyboard and mouse may lock up or will not be available.

You can try the Troubleshooting steps below to try and resolve your issue.

NOTE: You will need a wired Keyboard and Mouse to start off these Troubleshooting steps.

2. Pair the Bluetooth Mouse

  1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon located in the lower-right corner of your screen (Figure 1).

  2. In the Bluetooth Pop-Up Menu (Figure 2), click Add a Bluetooth Device.

  3. After the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard opens, press the Bluetooth Connect button located on the bottom of your mouse (Figure 3).

  4. After the mouse is in discovery mode (blinking lights on the mouse) the Add Bluetooth Device window appears, click to check My device is set up and ready to be found.
  5. Click Next.
  6. When the search is complete, a list of devices display. Click the Dell BT Mouse, then click Next. If the mouse is not displayed, verify the mouse is still in discovery mode and click Search Again. Most Bluetooth devices have a set amount of time they stay in discovery mode.
  7. After you click Next, the passkey screen appears. Click Use the passkey found in the documentation, and then enter a value of 0000 (zeros) and click Next.
  8. Once the mouse is installed, the Finish screen appears. Click Finish.

The mouse should now be paired and connected.

3. Pair the Bluetooth Keyboard


  1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon located in the lower-right corner of your screen (Figure 1).
  2. In the Bluetooth Pop-Up Menu (Figure 2), click Add a Bluetooth Device.
  3. After the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard opens, press the Bluetooth Connect button located on the bottom of your keyboard (Figure 4).

  4. After the keyboard is in discovery mode (blinking lights on the top of the keyboard) the Add Bluetooth Device window appears, click to check My device is set up and ready to be found.
  5. Click Next.
  6. When the search is complete, a list of devices display. Click the Dell BT Keyboard, then click Next. If the keyboard is not displayed, verify the keyboard is still in discovery mode and click Search Again.
  7. After you click Next, the passkey screen appears (Figure 5). Click Choose a passkey for me.

    NOTE: The step above is very important. Choosing any other option or leaving the passkey field blank will prevent the keyboard from connecting.

  8. Type the passkey that appears on your screen, and then press the <Enter> key.

The keyboard and mouse are now successfully paired and ready for use. The next time you restart the computer both the mouse and keyboard will be available for use.
