Identify the Sound Card Using the System Invoice

If you have the system invoice, you can determine which sound card was shipped in your system. For details on how to read your invoice, refer to the Dell KB Article: "How to Read the Invoice for a Dell Computer" Article ID: 131652.

When you have determined the sound card or integrated chipset, you can then choose the appropriate install guide in the table below.

Identify the Sound Card by Looking at the Back of the Computer

The sound card is located at the back of the tower. The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and the Creative Sound Blaster Live! will be located towards the bottom along with other PCI cards if any. The ADI 198x Integrated Audio will be next to the USB ports in the center.

Identify the Sound Card by Looking at System Information

The following steps are not valid if the operating system has just been reinstalled or the driver has been uninstalled. This is to help verify the hardware in the system prior to reinstalling, or to confirm that the driver has been installed correctly.

  1. Click the Start button, and then click Run.

  2. In the Run window, type the following text into the Open: box: msinfo32.exe

  3. Click the OK button.

  4. In the System Information window, under the System Summary menu on the left, click the plus sign (+) next to Components.

  5. In the list of installed components, click to select Sound Device. The sound card is listed in the right pane next to Name.

  6. Click the card in the table below that was listed under System Information to view the installation instructions:
