On recently purchased a Dell computers with the Windows 7 operating system that have DataSafe Local 2.0 on the system, users can create a set of Recovery Discs that contain a complete copy of all software installed on the Dell computer.
To ensure whether or not DataSafe Local 2.0 is installed on the system or not, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start and then click All Programs.
  2. Click Dell DataSafe, then click Dell DataSafe Local Backup.

For more information about DataSafe Local refer to the Dell Knowledge Base Article below.

Users in the United States/Canada can now request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the Resource DVD which contains device drivers and utilities specific to the system.

  • Requests are limited to one (1) set of backup discs per system purchased.
  • The backup discs requested must match the operating system that was factory installed on the original order.

Dell will provide the most up to date Resource DVD available. This disc contains the latest drivers and diagnostic tools currently being shipped on new systems. Due to the frequent updates, this disc may not have all the drivers needed for a specific system, especially if it is over one (1) year old. To ensure all of the correct drivers are available for the computer, it is strongly suggested to download the drivers from the Dell Support web site at: Drivers and Downloads.

If considering an operating system reinstall, please refer the alternative Dell Knowledge Base Article: "Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings"

To proceed with requesting these backup discs, continue to the Request Backup Discs form, fill out all the requested information and click Submit. Note that this form is not available outside the United States/Canada.
