How To Connect to a Dell Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse Using the SetPoint Software in Wndows XP

This article is provides information on pairing Dell™ Bluetooth™ Adapters to a Dell™ Bluetooth® Mouse and Keyboards using the SetPoint Software in addition to providing basic troubleshooting assistance in Windows® XP.


Issue 1: Pair to a Bluetooth Device (new and re-pair)

  1. Locate the Bluetooth icon in the lower-right corner of the computer screen, and compare the status to Table 1.
    (The Bluetooth icon may be hidden, click the Show hidden icons arrow to show any hidden icons.)

    Bluetooth Icon Status
    Enabled - The Bluetooth adapter is ready to pair with another Bluetooth device.

    Connected - The Bluetooth adapter is already connected to a Bluetooth device (if the desired device is not the one its connected to, it will have to be re-paired).
    Disabled - The wireless switch is off. For information on how to turn the wireless switch on refer to the
    Online User's Guide.
    None When no icon shows the Bluetooth driver needs to be installed, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article:

A 350 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer

  1. Verify the following conditions have been met:
    • Batteries are installed in the Mouse and Keyboard.
    • The Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer.
    • The latest driver for the Bluetooth adapter is installed, if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article:
      "How to Download and Install the Latest Dell Wireless Bluetooth Driver"
    • The latest version of Dell Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle is installed,
      if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: "How to Download and Install a Driver"
    • The Bluetooth device you are going to pair is within 30 ft. (10 meters) of the computer.



  2. Right-click the Bluetooth icon located in the lower-right corner of the computer screen.


  3. Click Add New Connection.
    When Bluetooth devices have already been paired, the Bluetooth Settings window appears. When the device you want to connect with is listed but not connected make sure it is within radio range and turned on and then attempt the connection again.


  4. Select Express Mode.


  5. Turn on the Bluetooth mouse and place it in discovery mode by pressing the pairing button on the bottom.


  6. Click Next to start searching.


  7. Click the icon for the mouse to highlight it and then click Next.


  8. The connection is set up automatically. Once the connection to the mouse has been created, the wizard closes and returns to the Bluetooth Settings window. The new connection is now listed there. The link symbol under the mouse indicates it is connected.


  9. SetPoint will now launch and ask to check for updates, click OK. If an update is available click to download it.


  10. After the update has been applied, click OK.


  11. Turn on the Bluetooth keyboard and place it in discovery mode by pressing the pairing button on the bottom.


  12. Click Next to start searching.


  13. Click the icon for the keyboard to highlight it and then click Next.


  14. When the keyboard is connected, the Confirm Keyboard Connection screen appears. A passkey that has been generated for the keyboard is shown. Type in the passkey as it is shown on the screen.
    The keyboard can only store one passkey. The passkey is unique to each computer. If you try to connect the keyboard to more than one computer, the passkey is changed each time you create a connection.


  15. The connection is set up automatically. Once the connection to the keyboard has been created, the wizard closes and returns to the Bluetooth Settings window. The new connection is now listed there. The link symbol under the keyboard indicates it is connected. You are now be able to use the devices.

A 355 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer

  1. Verify the following conditions have been met:
    • Batteries are Installed in the Mouse and Keyboard.
    • The Dell Wireless Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer.
    • The latest driver for the Bluetooth adapter is installed, if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article:
      "How to Download and Install the Latest Dell Wireless Bluetooth Driver"
    • The latest version of Dell Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle is installed,
      if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: "How to Download and Install a Driver"
    • The Bluetooth device you are going to pair is within 30 ft. (10 meters) of the computer.


  2. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the lower-right corner of the computer screen.


  3. Click Bluetooth Setup Wizard.


  4. Select the radio button next to I want to find a specific Bluetooth device and configure how this computer will use its services, then click Next.


  5. Turn on the Bluetooth mouse and place it in discovery mode by pressing the pairing button on the bottom.


  6. Click Next to start searching.


  7. Click the icon for the mouse to highlight it and then click Next.


  8. The connection is set up automatically. Once the connection to the mouse has been created, the wizard closes and returns to the Bluetooth Settings window. The new connection is now listed there. The link symbol under the mouse indicates it is connected.


  9. SetPoint will now launch and ask to check for updates, click OK. If an update is available click to download it.


  10. After the update has been applied, click OK.


  11. Turn on the Bluetooth keyboard and place it in discovery mode by pressing the pairing button on the bottom.


  12. Click Next to start searching.


  13. Click the icon for the device you want to connect to in order to highlight it and then click Next.


  14. When the keyboard is connected, the Confirm Keyboard Connection screen appears. A passkey that has been generated for the keyboard is shown. Type in the passkey as it is shown on the screen.
    The keyboard can only store one passkey. The passkey is unique to each computer. If you try to connect the keyboard to more than one computer, the passkey is changed each time you create a connection.


  15. The connection is set up automatically. Once the Confirmation Required screen appears, click the Click here button. This confirms the keyboard has been set up and connected. You are now be able to use the devices.

A 360 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer

  1. Verify the following conditions have been met:
    • Batteries are installed in the Mouse and Keyboard.
    • The Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer.
    • The latest driver for the Bluetooth adapter is installed, if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article:

    • The latest version of Dell Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle is installed,
      if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: "How to Download and Install a Driver"
    • The Bluetooth device you are going to pair is within 30 ft. (10 meters) of the computer.


  2. Right-click the Bluetooth icon located in the lower-right corner of the computer screen.


  3. Click Add New Connection.

A 365 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer

  1. Verify the following conditions have been met:
    • Batteries are Installed in the Mouse and Keyboard.
    • The Dell Wireless Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer.
    • The latest driver for the Bluetooth adapter is installed, if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article:

  2. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the lower-right corner of the computer screen.


  3. Click Add a Bluetooth Device.


  4. Turn on the Bluetooth mouse and place it in discovery mode by pressing the pairing button on the bottom.


  5. Click Next to start searching.

A 370 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer

  1. Verify the following conditions have been met:
    • Batteries are Installed in the Mouse and Keyboard.
    • The Dell Wireless Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer.

A 410 Bluetooth adapter is installed in the computer

A Dell USB Bluetooth is installed in the computer

  1. Verify the following conditions have been met:
    • Batteries are installed in the Mouse and Keyboard.
    • The USB Bluetooth adapter is attached to the computer.
    • The latest version of Dell Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle is installed,
      if unsure refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: How to Download and Install a Driver
    • The Bluetooth device you are going to pair is within 30 ft. (10 meters) of the computer.


  2. Press the Bluetooth connect button on the top of the USB adapter.


  3. Turn on the Bluetooth mouse and press the Bluetooth connect button on the bottom of the mouse. The Bluetooth LED on top of the mouse should start blinking. If the LED does not blink, press the Bluetooth connection button again and hold it down for 2-3 seconds until the Bluetooth LED starts blinking. As soon as the mouse is detected, SetPoint moves to the next screen.


  4. Once the mouse is detected, the SetPoint software attempts to connect to the mouse. This may take a few minutes.


  5. The Confirm Mouse Connection screen appears. Click the chain on the screen with the Dell Bluetooth Mouse. This confirms the correct mouse is being connected


  6. When the connection with the mouse is completed, the Congratulations screen is shown. The chain links will be connected in the picture. Click the Next button to connect the keyboard.


  7. Turn on the Bluetooth keyboard and press the Bluetooth connect button on the bottom of the keyboard. The Bluetooth LED on top of the keyboard should start blinking. If the LED does not blink, press the Bluetooth connection button again and hold it down for 2-3 seconds until the Bluetooth LED starts blinking. As soon as the keyboard is detected, SetPoint moves to the next screen.


  8. When the keyboard is connected, the Confirm Keyboard Connection screen appears. A passkey that has been generated for the keyboard is shown. Type in the passkey as it is shown on the screen.
    The keyboard can only store one passkey. The passkey is unique to each computer. If you try to connect the keyboard to more than one computer, the passkey is changed each time you create a connection.


  9. The SetPoint software compares the passkey entered on the keyboard with the passkey generated and displayed on the screen. Please wait until the pairing is complete.


  10. If the passkeys match, SetPoint displays the Keyboard Connection Confirmation screen. Click Next to continue.


  11. When the Device Connection Status screen appears, if either the mouse or keyboard is missing, click Connect Another Device to restart the connection wizard. If both are shown, click Close. The keyboard and mouse are now paired inside the Vista operating system and can be seen in the Bluetooth Devices window. You are now be able to use the devices.

Issue 2: The Mouse Keeps Asking for a Passkey

In the event that after pairing, your mouse repeatedly asks for a pass key, you will want to disable the Secure Connection feature:

  1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray.


  2. Click Bluetooth Configuration.


  3. Click the Client Applications tab.


  4. Select Human Interface Device, then click Properties.


  5. Uncheck the box next to Secure Connection.


  6. Click Ok.


  7. Click Apply, then click Ok.
