Downloading Drivers, User Guides and Firmware Downloads for Your Dell Printer

This article provides instructions on removing, then downloading and installing the latest driver or firmware for your printer.


Dell Laser Printers

  1. Uninstall The Existing Dell Laser Printer Drivers

1: Uninstall the Existing Dell Laser Printer Drivers

Before reinstalling any printer drivers, it is best to remove any printer drivers that were previously installed, not doing so can cause problems that prevent the computer from communicating with the printer.

To uninstall previous printer drivers:

  1. Turn the printer on.



  2. Make sure the Dell Laser Printer is connected to your computer (USB cable, wireless or wired).



  3. Make sure there is nothing in the print queue.
    For more information refer to Dell Knowledge base article How to Cancel a Print Job in the Queue.



  4. A corrupted printer spooler can cause the printer uninstall process not to work.
    Click your Operating System below to open the Microsoft printer spooler reset page and follow the instructions.
    Note: Resetting the printer spooler may uninstall your printer driver.



  5. Uninstall the printer:
    • For Windows 8.1 perform following steps:
      1. Move the cursor to the upper right corner of the screen until the Charms Bar appears.
      2. Click or touch Settings.
      3. Click or touch Change PC settings.
      4. Click or touch PC and devices.
      5. Click or touch Devices.
      6. Click or touch the printer you want to remove.
      7. Click or touch Remove device.
      8. Click or touch Yes to remove the printer.

    • For Windows 7 perform following steps:
      1. Click the Start button.
      2. Click Devices and Printers.
      3. Right-click the printer you desire to uninstall.
      4. Select Remove device.
      5. Click Yes to remove the printer.

    • For Windows Vista perform following steps:
      1. Click Start.
      2. Click Control Panel.
      3. Click Printer.
      4. Click File.
      5. Click Server Properties.
      6. Click the Driver tab.
      7. Click the driver(s) you want to remove.
      8. Click Remove.
      9. Click Yes to confirm the removal.
      10. Click Close.

    • For Windows XP perform following steps:
      1. Click Start.
      2. Click Control Panel.
      3. Click Printers and Faxes.
      4. Click File.
      5. Click Server Properties.
      6. Click the Driver tab.
      7. Click the driver(s) you want to remove.
      8. Click Remove.
      9. Click Yes to confirm the removal.
      10. Click Close.
Note: Disconnect any USB cable from the printer, wait for the installation process to tell you when to reconnect a USB cable.

2: Download and Install the Dell Laser Printer Drivers

Driver releases are designed to update features and to correct functionality, it is recommended to update to the latest version of the drivers available for your printer.

Note: If you are looking for Windows 7 or Windows 8 drivers for your printer, and it is not listed as having any, some or all of the printer functionality may still work with Windows 7 or Windows 8. You may be able to use a older printer driver.
  1. Browse to the Dell Support Page.



  2. Enter your printer's Service Tag to get a concise list of drivers for your specific product model. Click Submit to continue. For information on how to locate your printer Service Tag refer to Dell Knowledge base article How to Find the Service tag on a Dell Laser Printer.
    Note: When the Service Tag is not available:
    1. Click Printers.



    2. Click Mono Laser Printers, Color Laser Printers or All-In-One Inkjet Printers.



    3. Select your printer model (the model number of your printer is shown on the front of the printer).



  3. Click Drivers & downloads.



  4. Select the desired Operating System from the drop-down menu.



  5. Click Show All.



  6. Click Download under the desired file to start the download immediately or you can add it to a download list to download multiple files at the same time.
    Note:
    • The Application download contains toner re-order application, users guides and troubleshooting utility. Some downloads also include the print driver. If Driver is not listed in the description then select the download from Drivers For OS Deployment.
    • If an Application section does not appear then only print drivers are available for download.

    • By downloading, you accept the terms of the Dell Software License Agreement.



  7. Click Run.



  8. Make sure the box next to Close this dialog box when download completes is unchecked.



  9. When the download completes, click Allow, Run or Yes.



  10. Follow the prompts that appear to install the drivers or applications.
    Notes: If the installer does not automatically start, the drivers will need to be installed manually.

3: Download and Install the Dell Laser Printer Firmware

Firmware releases are designed to update features and to correct functionality, it is recommended to update to the latest version of firmware available for your printer.

  1. Browse to the Dell Support Page page.



  2. Enter your printer's Service Tag to get the latest firmware for your specific product model. Click Submit to continue. For information on how to locate your printer Service Tag refer to Dell Knowledge base article How to Find the Service tag on a Dell Laser Printer.
    Note: If the Service Tag is not available:
    1. Click Printers.



    2. Click Mono Laser Printers, Color Laser Printers or All-In-One Inkjet Printers.



    3. Select your printer model (the model number of your printer is shown on the front of the printer).



  3. Click Drivers & downloads.



  4. Select the desired Operating System from the drop-down menu.



  5. Click Firmware.



  6. Click Download under the desired file to start the download immediately or you can add it to a download list to download multiple files at the same time.
    Note: By downloading, you accept the terms of the Dell Software License Agreement.



  7. Click Run.



  8. Make sure the box next to Close this dialog box when download completes is unchecked.



  9. When the download completes, click Allow, Run or Yes.



  10. Follow the prompts that appear to install the firmware.

Dell Inkjet Printers

1: Uninstall the Existing Dell Inkjet Printer Drivers

  5. Click Drivers for OS Deployment.



  6. Click Download under the desired file to start the download immediately or you can add it to a download list to download multiple files at the same time.
    Note:
    • The printer download includes the drivers and software that supports basic functionally of the printer. It does not include the extra software that was included on the CD's that came with the printer such as Optical Character Reader (OCR) software due to copyright restrictions.

    • By downloading, you accept the terms of the Dell Software License Agreement.



  7. Click Run.



  8. Make sure the box next to Close this dialog box when download completes is unchecked.



  9. When the download completes, click Allow, Run or Yes.



  10. Follow the prompts that appear to install the drivers or applications.

3: Download and Install the Dell Inkjet Printer Firmware
