What are the different versions of Office 2013?

Office 2013 is offered with four different subscription versions, all of which contain the core Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. The different versions are:

  • Office 365 - this is an annual subscription version which can be installed on five different computers and select mobile devices. It has all Office features.
  • Office Home & Student 2013 - This is the simplest one-time purchase version.
  • Office Home & Business 2013 - This one-time purchase version adds Email, calendars, and tasks by including Outlook.
  • Office Professional 2013 - This one-time purchase version adds Outlook, Publisher, and Access.

How do I install the trial version of Office 2013?

If you purchased a PC with the free trial version of Office 2013 installed on your system, you must used the activation code specifically for Office 2013. You cannot use an activation code for any other version of Office to activate the free trial.

If you have a Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC that did not come with the free trial you may download the free trial version and try it out.

What are the differences with Office 365?

Office 365 has several differences from other versions of Office 2013:

  • It contains all available Office components and features.
  • It is an annual subscription as opposed to a one-time purchase.
  • It can be installed on up to five different computers and select mobile devices.
  • It comes with 20+ Gb of SkyDrive storage.
  • It can be used on demand from any internet-connected Windows PC.
  • It includes 60 minutes of international Skype calls each month.

Can I upgrade my existing Office 2010 license to an Office 2013 version?

Activation and licensing of Office 2013 are separate from earlier versions. You cannot upgrade any existing version of Office to Office 2013.
