What is Drivers by System Analysis/Detect Drivers?

System Analysis/Detect Drivers on the Drivers and Downloads page will automatically detect your Dell Computer's Service Tag and system configuration. Dell will automatically detect and display your current system configuration details and service tag, enabling us to:

  • Determine whether or not your system is still covered under warranty.
  • Know what software is currently installed on your system.
  • Find compatible drivers and utilities for your Dell product.
  • Provide you with relevant articles and self-help topics.
  • Collect software usage data.

How does System Analysis/Detect Drivers work?

When you run System Analysis/Detect Drivers to detect the Service Tag of your Dell Computer, Dell System Detect application is installed in the computer. Once installed, it will scan your Dell computer, detect existing drivers and utilities based on the Operating System that is currently installed and propose a list of recommended drivers and utilities.


How do I download and install drivers using Detect Drivers?

To allow the Dell Support website to identify your computer, scan your computer for existing drivers and utitities, follow the instructions below.

  1. Browse to the Dell Support website.
  2. Identify your Dell computer on the Dell Support website using any of the following methods:
    • Click Detect Product. This will use the Dell System Detect application to identify your computer, the Dell System Detect application will be downloaded and installed if it is not found on your Dell computer.
    • Enter the Service Tag or Express Service Code of your Dell computer and click Submit.
    • You can also select your Dell product manually by clicking on View Products.

  3. Click on Drivers & downloads on the left pane.
  4. Under the Guide Me tab, click on Detect Drivers (Figure 2). The Dell System Detect application will now scan your computer for existing drivers and list the recommended driver updates.

  5. Once the scan is complete, click on Download and install (Figure 4).

  6. In the Browse for Folder pop-up windows, select the location where you would like to save the downloaded driver installation files.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the drivers and utilities installation.

What are some of the errors that I may encounter during the automatic download and install procedure?

Below are some errors that you may encounter (Figure 5) and what you can do to download and install the drivers.

Automatic installation failed.

Errors may occur during the download the procedure or occasionally files may go corrupt during the download procedure. During such scenarios, it is recommended that you download the drivers and install them manually.
To manually download the drivers:

  1. Click on View details next to the failed driver download (Figure 5). This will take you to the download page of that specific driver.
  2. Click Download File.
  3. Click Save and select the location where you would like to save the downloaded file.
  4. Go to the location where you downloaded the driver installation file and double-click on the file.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.

Manual installation required.

Some drivers might require manual installation such as a BIOS update. Such drivers require you to download and install them manually.
To manually download the drivers:

  1. Click on View details next to the failed driver download (Figure 5). This will take you to the download page of that specific driver.
  2. Click Download File.
  3. Click Save and select the location where you would like to save the downloaded file.
  4. Go to the location where you downloaded the driver installation file and double-click on the file.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.
