How Do I Connect a Dell V515w All-in-One Inkjet Printer to a Wireless Network


This article provided guidance for connecting a Dell V515w All-in-One Inkjet printer to a wireless network.

 


 

Before proceeding you will need to make sure the computer is connected to the network (wired or wireless), for additional information on getting connected please refer to Dell Knowledge Base "Fix, Connect to and Learn About Wireless (Wi-Fi), Printers and Home Networking" Article ID 277961.
Consult the Wireless (Wi-Fi) and Direct Internet Connection sections.

 

  1. Insert the installation CD into the optical drive of the computer.
     
  2. On the Welcome screen, click Install.
     
  3. On the License agreement screen, click I agree, if you agree with the license.
     
  4. On the Select your included software screen, click Continue.
     
  5. On the Check for updates screen, select No (this can be done later), then click Continue.
    • Anytime the Software or Hardware Installation window appears, click Continue Anyway
    • Anytime the Windows Security window appears, click
      Install this driver software anyway.

 

Choose below if this is the first time setting up the printer or if it already set up and you are installing it on a computer.

(Set up means the printer has been taken out of the box, powered on, the ink cartridges have been installed and is connected to the wireless network.)

This is the first time setting up the printer

  1. Click New printer.
     
  2. Unpack the printer following the instructions on the computer screen, then click Continue.
     
  3. Remove the tape and packing material following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  4. Raise the paper support following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  5. Raise the printer control panel following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  6. Open the printer and remove the packaged printhead following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  7. If necessary, insert the correct language overlay following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  8. If necessary, install the protective cover following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  9. Close the printer following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  10. Load paper following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  11. If necessary, remove the ink cartridges from the exit tray following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  12. Extend the paper tray following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  13. Connect the power cord (not the USB cable for now) from an electrical outlet to the printer, then click Continue.
     
  14. Make sure the printer is on (the power light should be a solid green, if it flashes green off and on, press the power button to wake the printer) then click Continue.
     
  15. Set the language following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  16. Set the country and region following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  17. Set up the fax following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  18. Set the date and time following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  19. Enter the number and fax name following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  20. Open the printer following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  21. Lift the latch following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  22. Remove the printhead from the disposable container following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  23. Insert the printhead, then close the latch until it clicks following the animation on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  24. Close the printer following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  25. Reopen the printer following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  26. Remove the black ink cartridge from its packaging, then using two hands install it following the animation on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  27. Repeat the same process for the color ink cartridge (the animation can be replayed for additional information), then click Continue.
     
  28. Close the printer following the instructions on the screen, then click Continue.
     
  29. Press OK on the printer to print an alignment page.

    Even though the printer will be used wirelessly it is recommended to install it using a USB cable first then setting up the printer for a wireless connection.
     
  30. Click USB cable.
     
  31. Connect the USB cable from the computer to the printer following the instructions on the screen.

    (It may take a few minutes for the drivers and hardware to be installed and will automatically proceed to the next screen.)
    • If no beeps are heard and the hardware installation bubbles do not appear, click "I connected the cable but cant click Continue" for additional information.
    • If the new hardware wizard window opens, click Cancel).

 

Choose Below if you want to set up the fax on the printer.
(This can be done later using the Dell Printer Home software.)

Setting up the Fax Now

  1. Select Yes, then click Continue.
     
  2. Set the Language and Country using the drop down menus.
     
  3. Set the date and time, then click Continue.
     
  4. Enter the name that shows who the fax is from and the fax number, then click Continue.
     
  5. Select Yes or No if a prefix number is needed and what that number is.
     
  6. Select Yes or No if Voice over IP (VOIP) adapter is used to send faxes, then click Continue.
     
  7. Select Yes or No if the fax uses a dedicated line (if no select what device will share the fax line), then click Continue.
     
  8. Select if and when you want the fax to answer incoming calls, then click Continue.
     
  9. Select the number of rings you want the fax to wait before answering using the drop down menus, then click Continue.
     
  10. If you want to test the fax settings click Test Fax, then click Continue.
     
  11. Click Finish.
     
  12. Click the Windows Start button.
     
  13. Click All Programs.
     
  14. Click Dell Printers.
     
  15. Click Dell Printer Home.
     
  16. Click the Settings tab.
     
  17. Click Wireless setup utility.
     
  18. The User Account Control window may appear, if so click Continue.

    Before proceeding you will need to know you wireless network name and what the network (security) key is, if any. If you do not know this information please refer to Dell Knowledge Base "Identify and Connect to Your Wireless (Wi-Fi) Network" Article ID 270773.
    Consult the What is my Network Name? and What is my Security Key? sections.
  19. On the Add a printer to your wireless network screen, click Continue.
     
  20. The printer looks for nearby wireless networks and displays them.

 

Choose below if your wireless network name appears in the list
(it may be necessary to scroll the list up or down to find it).

Click here if your network name appears in the list.
Click here if your network name does not appear in the list

  1. Click on your network, then click Continue.

  3. Review and make sure the settings are correct (if not click back to make the changes), then click Continue.

  4. The Allow Dell Software window may appear, if so read the instructions, write down any notes needed, then click OK.
     
  5. When instructed remove the USB cable from the computer and printer.
     
  6. Click Finish.

 

The printer is now connected to the wireless network.

The Wireless Network Name Does Not Appear in the List

  1. Click Unlisted Network.
     
  2. Enter the Network Name. then click Continue.
     
  3. Select the type of Network Security the wireless router has, then click Continue.
     
  4. If asked enter the Network Security Key, then click Continue.
     
  5. Review and make sure the settings are correct (if not click back to make the changes), then click Continue.

    (The printer is configured and connects to the wireless network.)
     
  6. The Allow Dell Software window may appear, if so read the instructions, write down any notes needed, then click OK.
     
  7. When instructed remove the USB cable from the computer and printer.
     
  8. Click Finish.

 

The printer is now connected to the wireless network.

Setting up the Fax Later

  1. Select No, then click Continue.
     
  2. On the Print sample screen, click Continue.
     
  3. On the product registration screen, check or un-check the options as you desire, click Continue.
     
  4. Click Finish.
     
  5. Click the Windows Start button.
     
  6. Click All Programs.
     
  7. Click Dell Printers.
     
  8. Click Dell Printer Home.
     
  9. Click the Settings tab.
     
  10. Click Wireless setup utility.
     
  11. The User Account Control window may appear, if so click Continue.

    Before proceeding you will need to know you wireless network name and what the network (security) key is, if any. If you do not know this information please refer to Dell Knowledge Base "Identify and Connect to Your Wireless (Wi-Fi) Network" Article ID 270773.
    Consult the What is my Network Name? and What is my Security Key? sections.
  12. On the Add a printer to your wireless network screen, click Continue.
     
  13. The printer looks for nearby wireless networks and displays them.

 

Choose below if your wireless network name appears in the list
(it may be necessary to scroll the list up or down to find it).

Click here if your network name appears in the list.
Click here if your network name does not appear in the list

  1. Click Unlisted Network.

The printer is already setup

  1. Select Additional Computer.

    (The printer software is installed and may take several minutes.)
     
  2. Select Wireless Connection.
     
  3. The Wi-Fi symbol on the front of the printer should be green, if not:
    If the Wi-Fi symbol is Orange click here. If the Wi-Fi symbol is Off, turn the printer on. Click Green.
     
  4. The Allow Dell Software window may appear, if so read the instructions, write down any notes needed, then click OK.
     
  5. Select your printer from the list, then click Continue.
     
  6. Change the printer name from the default if desired, then click Continue.

 

Choose Below if you want to set up the fax on the printer.
(This can be done later using the Dell Printer Home software.)

  1. Click Orange.
     
  2. On the Add a printer to your wireless network screen, click Continue.
     
  3. Connect the USB cable from the computer to the printer following the instructions on the screen.
