004-312 Invalid Tray Configuration Error on Dell 3000cn/3010cn/3100cn Laser Printers


1. Verify that the paper tray configuration is valid for the printer:

-> A maximum of 2 paper trays can be installed.

-> The first paper tray, if installed, must be a 250-sheet feeder assembly (Standard or Legal).

-> The first paper tray must be installed on 3100cn to operate, but is optional for the 3000cn and 3010cn.

-> The second paper tray, if installed, must be the optional 500-sheet feeder assembly.

2. Turn the printer off using the power switch on the left side.

3. Wait 10 seconds, turn the printer back on, and check if the error message still occurs.

4. If the error persists, turn off the printer and disconnect the AC power cable.

5. Remove the printer from the 250-sheet feeder assembly and check the tray connector on the bottom of the printer for damage. If the tray connector is damaged, replace the printer.

6. Reseat the printer on the 250-sheet feeder assembly.

7. Reconnect the AC power cable, turn on the printer, and check if the error still occurs.
