Why am I unable to manually disable auto-negotiation and set duplex speed using ethtool on Broadcom NICs in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 3.0? - KB Article - 174260

The ethtool will not function correctly when using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 native tg3 module.

The tg3 module in the 2.4.21-4.EL kernel does not allow you to manually disable auto-negotiation and set the duplex speed using ethtool.

Update the tg3 module.

An updated tg3 module that resolves this issue is available on the Server Assistant CD or from the Dell Support website at http://support.dell.com.

NOTE: If Dell preinstalled your operating system or you installed it using the Server Assistant CD, then this updated driver was installed. This issue will also be fixed in a later errata kernel.
