P2815Q blank screen connected to Macbook Air 11.

A Dell customer reported their Macbook Air 11 systems with Intel 5000 graphics displayed several display issues when connected to Dell P2815Q displays. The following issues were reported:

• The most common issue is a blank screen
• The latency issue is constant
• Black borders around windows
• Screen flickering
• Losing video issues after 1 hour of use
• Blanking video
• Distorted video

No Fault with P2815Q display.

The P2815Q has a 4k x 2k optimal resolution of 3840 x 2160 on DP/mDP or High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cable connection the Macbook Air 11 has a max external resolution of 2560 x 1600 using MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 .

Troubleshooting with Dell support agents indicated that the cause of the display issues was inability of the Macbook Air 11 to fully support the display capabilities of the displays. The P2815Q displays were tested using systems that fully support the P2815Q display capabilities and no issues were noted when connected to systems with 4k x 2k display support.

Troubleshooting Notes:

• Disable the DisplayPort 1.2 (DP1.2) setting in the monitor On Screen Display (OSD). With DP1.2 enabled it can result in compatibility issues due to the Multi-Stream Transport (MST) hubs being engaged.
• Single external DisplayPort connected displays should have DP1.2 disabled.
• Notebooks with HDMI 1.4 can support 4k resolution at 30Hz.
• Notebooks with HDMI 2.0 can support 4K resolutions at 60 Hz.
• Previous versions of HDMI do not support 4K resolutions.
