Hardware reserved memory in Windows Server 2008 R2


Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition shows only 4Gb RAM available for the Operating System. The remaining memory is shown on Resource Monitor as "Hardware Reserved". The below picture shows a similar situation.





To solve this issue, use the follow procedure (you will need to have your Windows product key in hand):

  • slmgr /upk (uninstall product key)
  • slmgr /cpky (clear registry setting)
  • slmgr /ipk xxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (Your Product key goes here, dashes included)
  • slmgr /rilc (re install liencecse file)
  • slmgr /ato (automatic updates)
  • Reboot the Machine
