Error Logs Stored in BIOS
Starting with the E-Family line of laptops, diagnostics both PSA and DOS based, BIOS thermal and power events are all logged in the BIOS. The BIOS stores five (5) logs in each category moving the oldest one down. Each log consists of a date and time stamp, the type of event or from which diagnostics the event originated from and the actual error code (Figure 1).

These logs can be very helpful in trouble shooting, especially tracking down intermittant problems which can be the most difficult. For example, if the computer is randomly and intermittanly producing blue screen errors and locking up, it might be due to a thermal events that will be logged. It can then be much easier to determined from the time and type of thermal event that the problem could be caused by either behavior, environment, or hardware failure.
