Quick Start Install guide for Small Business Server Essentials 2011 (SBS)


Prerequisites:

  • Product Key
  • Router with firewall capability
  • Network cable

Small Business Server 2011 Essentials Came Preinstalled:

  1. Connect your server to the Network
  2. Insert the RJ45 (Ethernet) Cable into your server network card
  3. Connect the other end of the RJ45 (Ethernet) Cable into your Router / Switch depending on network environment
  4. Connect the Mouse, Monitor, and Keyboard to the server
  5. Turn on the server and follow the on screen instructions to finish setting up your Operating system.

Follow the instructions in the wizard to configure Windows SBS 2011 Essentials.

Steps to complete the starting tasks to configure your server:

When you start the server for the first time you will see the SBS Dashboard. This will assist you in completing the getting started tasks.

Finish the following tasks as soon as possible after installing the operating system

  • Set Server Backup
    • Configure and manage you server backup. You will need an external USB hard drive
  • Set up Remove Web Access
  • Use this wizard to setup Remote access to the server
  • Use this wizard to setup network shares for clients to utilize
  • Set options for sharing

Small Business Server 2011 Essentials is not installed on your server:

  1. Connect your server to the Network
  2. Insert the RJ45 (Ethernet) Cable into your server network card
  3. Connect the other end of the RJ45 (Ethernet) Cable into your Router / Switch depending on network environment
  4. Connect the Mouse, Monitor, and Keyboard to the server
  5. Insert the installation DVD for Small Business Server and restart the server
  6. Choose to boot from the install DVD you just inserted
  7. Follow the on screen instructions to finish setting up your Operating system.
