Paper Feed Problems on the Dell V313w, V515w, and P513w All-in-One Inkjet Printers

Issue 1: Check the Media Size and Type


These are the print media guidelines for the Dell V313w, V515w, and P513w All-In-One Inkjet Printers (Table 1):

Maximum Load Precautionary Steps
100 sheets of plain paper
  • Make sure the paper guides rest against the edges of the paper.

  • Load the paper with the print side facing up and the top going into the printer first.

10 envelopes
  • Make sure the print side of the envelope is face up.

  • The paper guides must rest against the edges of the envelopes.

  • Print the envelopes with Landscape orientation with the return address on the left.
If you are mailing within Japan, the envelope can be printed in Portrait orientation with the stamp in the lower right corner or in Landscape orientation with the stamp in the lower left corner. If you are mailing internationally, print Landscape orientation with the stamp in the upper left corner.

20 sheets of banner paper
  • Remove all paper from the paper support before inserting banner paper.

  • Use banner paper designed for inkjet printers.

  • You place a stack of banner paper on or behind the printer and feed in the first sheet.

  • The paper guides rest against the edges of the paper.

  • Select A4 Banner or Letter Banner paper size.

25 greeting cards, index cards, postcards, or photo cards
  • Make sure the print side of the cards faces up.

  • The paper guides rest against the edges of the card.

  • Select Automatic, Normal or Photo print quality.

    Note: Draft mode is available but is not recommended for use with expensive paper such as heavyweight matte, labels, photo cards and glossy paper.
25 sheets of glossy/photo or matte paper
  • Make sure the print side of the paper faces up.

  • Make sure the paper guides rest against the edges of the paper.

  • Select Automatic, Normal or Photo print quality.

    Note: Draft mode is available but is not recommended for use with expensive paper such as heavyweight matte, labels, photo cards and glossy paper.
10 iron-on transfers
  • Follow the loading instructions on the iron-on transfer packaging.

  • Make sure the print side of the transfer faces up.

  • Make sure the paper guides rest against the edges of the transfer.

  • Select Automatic, Normal or Photo print quality.

50 sheets of transparencies
  • Make sure the rough side of the transparencies faces up.

  • Make sure the paper guides rest against the edges of the transparencies.

25 sheets of labels
  • Make sure the print side of the labels faces up.

  • Make sure the top of the labels feeds into the printer first.

  • Make sure the paper guides rest against the edges of the paper.

  • Select Automatic, Normal or Photo print quality.

    Note: Draft mode is available but is not recommended for use with expensive paper such as heavyweight matte, labels, photo cards and glossy paper.
25 sheets of heavyweight matte paper
  • Make sure the print side of the letterhead faces up.

  • Make sure the paper guides rest against the edges of the paper.

  • Select Automatic, Normal or Photo print quality.

    Note: Draft mode is available but is not recommended for use with expensive paper such as heavyweight matte, labels, photo cards and glossy paper.

Issue 2: Clear Any Paper or Media Jams

  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Clear any stuck sheets in the input tray.

  3. Open the printer by raising the scanner bed.

  4. Remove any stuck sheets in the printer interior

  5. If the printer is model V515w, open the Automatic Document Feeder and remove any stuck sheets (Figure 1).

  6. If the printer is model P513w, open the Duplex Unit at the back of the printer and remove any stuck sheets (Figure 2).

  7. Turn the printer on

Issue 3: Paper or Specialty Media Misfeeds

  • Check the media condition. Make sure to use only new, unwrinkled sheets.

  • Load only a small amount of paper into the tray.

  • Make sure the printable side of the media is face up.
