The following article provides information on an issue with the Security Center in Windows 7 not seeing Norton Internet Security as running, even while the program itself is saying it is.

1. Norton Internet Security is reporting it's running, but Security Center disagrees

You may see an issue where the Windows 7 Security Center reports that Norton is off - when the program itself reports as being active.

If this is the case, then please follow the steps below.

2. Why this is happening?

This is a problem is caused where the Windows Management Instrumentation is unable to communicate with the Norton product correctly.

3. How to stop it happening

1. Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run.

2. In the Run dialog box, type the following text: regsvr32 /u WMIUTILS.DLL

3. Click OK.

4. Restart the computer.

5. Click the Start button, and then click All Programs> Accessories > Run.

6. In the Run dialog box, type the following text: regsvr32 WMIUTILS.DLL

7. Click OK.

8. Restart the computer.

If this action alone does not resolve the issue, then the Norton product will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
