How do I change the parallel port mode to ECP, EPP, or Bi-directional in the BIOS (System Setup) on a Dell Dimension 8100, 4100, XPS T, XPS L, XPS R, or XPS D series computer? - Technical Tip - 146192




Change the parallel port mode on a Dimension™ 4100, XPS T, XPS R, XPS D, and XPS L Series computer in the BIOS.

  1. Click the Start button, click Shut Down, click Restart, and then click OK.
  2. While the computer is restarting, enter the System Setup.

    NOTE:
    For more information regarding how to enter System Setup, please refer to the links in the Additional Items section below in this document.
    T
    he Dell Dimension Setup screen appears.
  3. Press the <Right Arrow> key.
    The Advanced screen appears.
  4. Press the <Down Arrow> key repeatedly to highlight Peripheral Configuration.
  5. Press the <Enter> key.
    The Peripheral Configuration screen appears.
  6. Press the <Down Arrow> key repeatedly to highlight Mode.
  7. Press the <Enter> key.
  8. Press the <Down Arrow> key to select the mode that you want.
  9. Once you have highlighted the parallel port mode that you want, press the <Enter> key.
  10. Press the <F10> key to save the configuration changes.
    You are prompted to save the changes that you have made.
  11. Press the <Enter> key to save the changes and restart the computer.



Change the parallel port mode on a Dimension™ 8100 computer in the BIOS.

  1. Click the Start button, click Shut Down, click Restart, and then click OK.
  2. While the computer is restarting, enter the System Setup.
    T
    he System Setup screen appears.
  3. Press the <Down Arrow> key repeatedly to highlight Integrated Devices.
  4. Press the <Enter> key.
  5. Press the <Down Arrow> key repeatedly to highlight Parallel Port.
  6. Press the <Enter> key.
  7. Press the <Right Arrow> key repeatedly to select the mode that you want.
  8. Press the <Esc> key 3 times to exit the System Setup.
    The message Save Changes and Exit appears.
  9. Press the <Enter> key to save the changes and restart the computer.
