Background fogging Diagnostics

Background fogging (the background of a printed page is tainted by a specific colour) can be caused by an issue with one specific Toner Cartridge, the PHD Unit or a problem with the development process when Printing.

In order to diagnose a background fogging issue, please follow the steps below:
  1. Power the Printer on and Print a Settings Report

  2. To Print a settings report:

    • Press the Menu Button

    • Select Report/List

    • Select System Settings Page

    • The Report now Prints

  3. If the fogging issue is present on the Settings Report please try the following routine maintenance options:

    • Clean the Developer

    • Refresh the Toner

    • Refresh the Drum

  4. If the Background fogging issue is still present after carrying out the maintenance options, please try another PHD Unit, if available

  5. If after replacing the PHD Unit (or none was available), the Fogging issue is still present, please try a Stop Test on the Fuser Unit, to determine if the issue occurs before or after passing through the Fuser

  6. If the issue is present only after passing through the Fuser Unit, please try another Fuser from a working 2150cn/cdn Laser printer (if available)

  7. If the issue occurs before the Fuser or no other Fuser unit was available please contact Dell via Twitter to advise of a technical issue
