This is the best way of recovering your Alienware Steam Machine back to the factory settings as you can perform these steps using only the Steam Controller.

  1. Turn On your Alienware Steam Machine

  2. As the system boots start tapping the Start Button SLN300236_en_US__2iC_aw_steamcontroller_mr_v1 on your Steam Controller

    If you have a keyboard connected hit F12

  3. Select Restore System Partition and press A or Enter if you have a keyboard

The recovery process will continue automatically and may restart the system

Download the recovery image from Dell's Support Site and create USB media

What do you need?

  • Windows based PC
  • USB Drive with 8Gb minimum capacity (It will be completely erased during the process)
  • Working Internet Connection (Recovery Image is over 2Gb, process may take longer depending on your internet connection speed.)
  • A USB keyboard connected to your Alienware Steam Machine

Procedure

Using the Windows based PC do the following: 

  1. Go to dell.com/support/home/Drivers/OSISO/

  2. Enter your Service Tag

  3. Type the Verification Code

  4. Click on Check Availability

  5. Click on Download next to Alienware Steam Machine recovery image

  6. Download and Install the Dell OS Recovery Tool  

  7. Open the Dell OS Recovery Tool

  8. Follow the On-screen instructions

  9. Once the the process is complete, unplug the USB key

  10. Connect the USB Key in the Alienware Steam Machine 

  11. Connect a USB Keyboard to the Alienware Steam Machine 

  12. Turn on the system and tap F12 on the keyboard as the system turns on

  13. Select the USB key from the menu and press enter

  14. Follow the On-Screen instructions.
