This documents contains resources to perform the steps of updating the SharePoint password on SharePoint 2010.
In 2010, the use of managed accounts was used for various services and site collections.
Managed accounts have added security and durability to the overall SharePoint Farm.
However, when the passwords become out of sync, this can be difficult to understand how to fix.
The reason for this is because managed accounts can be mapped to one, many or all of the objects in the site.
Typical accounts that are used for mapping include the farm account, windows services, web applications, and service application pools.
The Sean Blog on the Microsoft TechNet site has instructions on how to configure new managed accounts, map managed accounts to service accounts, how to manage credentials, and common errors that may be experienced.
In addition, there are steps for managing with Power Shell.
There are some applications that need to be mapped manually.
In other words, they cannot be mapped to service accounts. Passwords that cannot be mapped to managed accounts included SQL and Search crawling.
The link shown above on Microsoft TechNet also has steps for the manual password resets, and many other resources for managing your SharePoint 2007 and 2010 installation:
