Why do I receive the error message "Agent Not Responding" when I issue a Regenerate command from within the Storage Consolidation Utility? - KB Article - 164758

Download and install Storage Consolidation 4.0 build 23.

After issuing a Regenerate command from within the Storage Consolidation (SC) utility, a remote server being polled may not respond if it is processing a high amount of data. In the SC Managed Server list, the server status displays: Agent Not Responding.

If the remote server process is terminated, it will respond to the Regenerate command normally.

This error has been observed in SAN 4.0, Storage Consolidation 4.0 build 22 when using Qlogic driver version 7.05.07.

This error will occur if the amount of time SC takes to perform a discovery on the disk storage and receive a response from SC agent running on each server exceeds the timeout threshold.

When a Regenerate command is issued from within the SC GUI, a complete discovery of storage devices takes place. During this discovery process, each server in the SAN is polled for drive LUN and drive letter assignments. If a server is performing heavy processing, it can take up to twenty seconds per drive letter to perform the discovery. In other words, twenty times twenty-six (drive letters), times the number of Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs). If the amount of time a polled server takes to respond to a regenerate command exceeds the timeout threshold, the resulting display will not contain information for the server that did not respond within the timeout period.
